In 1911, George Waggot who resided in Edmonton commissioned Monmouth as a summer residence for his family. He named the villa, Monmouth after a town in Wales from where his family emigrated. He imported the heavy red brick from Britain.
In 1953, Major Ray Young (click for Bio page) purchased Monmouth for the sum of $8000. He was well known for his large gun collection, displayed on the third floor. The Major issued firearms permits. A few locals have dropped by to share memories of getting their license at Monmouth.
In the 1980's the home was sold to Dave Cleave and he renovated it. In the late 1980's it was sold to the Halsey family who built a modern kitchen on the back of the house.
It was purchased by Dave and Marilyn Mackenzie in May, 2021. Over the last two years, it has been completely updated and restored.
